Depends on how you define "dangerous monster" and "a lot of money".
I just think of it as " a lot of XP" and, uhm, "a lot of money".
Plus my origin basically says that I ran away from home and does a lot of odd-jobs to earn my keeps. What's so epic about it?

Story: To bring the shotgun into EPIN as personal equipment, you need to register it with a one time administration fee of 500gp. (that's generally what everyone paid when they brought in their own sentient weapons, just I never mentioned nor registered since it's not important) Thereafter Standard Issued weapons are cheap My weapon is not self-aware yet. Can I just pass it off as a cheap staff and get my 500 gp back? ;D

Hanam: Are you SURE? Do you think I'll give anyone a sentient item any time soon in the future at all?

"You show me yours, I'll show you mine?"
I was kidding about the registration (500gp? My character can't even DIG up that much money).
And fluff-wise, do our characters know if our weapons are sentient or not?
Cuz it's gonna be a really weird roleplaying experience:
"Teddy? Are you alive? Can you speak? Speak to me, Teddy! SPEAK TO ME!!!"
